Tip: Go one or two sizes up in a crisp cotton shirt. Thin, slippery fabric won't hold a knot.

THIS (Nora): off-shoulder top

1. Wear a strapless bra or bandeau underneath.
2. Put the cami on as normal, straps on your shoulders.
3. Gather the body of the cami into a band at your chest.
4. Lift it over your head and pull it down so it sits across your upper arms.
5. Tuck it in and add a belt.

THAT (Mia): cropped cami

1. Strapless bra underneath.
2. Put the cami on upside down, so it sits like a tube top with the straps hanging at your waist.
3. Fold the bottom half up over the top half.
4. Hook the straps (now at the top) over your shoulders.

Tip: A plain stretchy cami with thin straps is easiest to fold. Lace trim and built-in cups make it bulky.

THIS (Nora): off-shoulder crop

1. Wear a strapless tube top underneath.
2. Hold the bodysuit upside down and slide both arms into the sleeves from the bottom.
3. Lift the body of the bodysuit over your head and pull it down behind your neck.
4. Spread the folded fabric into a wide band across your chest and upper arms.

THAT (Mia): one-shoulder top

1. Same tube top underneath.
2. Hold the bodysuit upside down and step both feet into the neck opening.
3. Pull it up over your skirt to your chest.
4. Take one arm through a leg opening so the edge sits over one shoulder. Tuck the sleeves inside.
5. Tuck it into your skirt and add a thin belt.

Tip: A long-sleeve crew-neck bodysuit with snaps and some stretch works best.

THIS (Nora): draped + belted

1. Open the scarf out flat and hold it by the two long corners.
2. Drape it over both shoulders like a cape, ends hanging evenly in front.
3. Put a belt round your waist, over the scarf, and buckle it.
4. Pull a little fabric up over the belt so it puffs slightly.

THAT (Mia): the loop knot

1. Fold the scarf in half lengthwise so it's long and narrow.
2. Fold it in half again so you have a loop at one end.
3. Put it round your neck with the loop on one side.
4. Pull both loose ends through the loop and adjust.

Tip: An oversized plaid scarf, at least 70 inches long, works for both. Chunky knit scarves are too thick to belt.
